Linda G. Bender's THERAPEUTIC STYLE
My approach to therapy is holistic and eclectic, drawing from many therapeutic disciplines including, but not limited to Rogerian, Gestalt, Family of Origin, Energy Psychology, and spiritual teachings. I see myself as a guide, lighting the path so that you can see yourself more clearly, accompanying you on your journey. Change begins with self awareness, learning to know yourself. Change is achieved by working with the whole person--exploring physical clues, emotional experiences, and spiritual beliefs as well as mental impressions.
My methods range from conventional "talk" therapy, in which I participate through questions and observations, to creative modes such as role-playing, inner child work, dream exploration, and healing trauma through energy work. The approach I take depends on the appropriateness of the techniques and your desire to experiment. Counseling methods include teaching new skills in the areas of interpersonal relations, stress reduction, single and alternative lifestyles, and money and time management. Examples of these are more effective means of communication, relaxation and centering techniques, self support skills, and practices to enhance self-esteem and personal empowerment.
Therapist/Client Relationship
I conduct my therapy sessions in a relaxed, comfortable and private office setting. Rather than remaining aloof and hidden, I participate through questions, observations, and self-disclosure when appropriate. My approach gives you an opportunity to receive open and honest reactions from another person without, however, feeling judged.
